I lived in London for 7 years, after moving there for a banking graduate scheme and having no idea about how all the areas of London worked, I ended up living in East London for several years in Stratford in The Olympic Village, otherwise known as the ‘East Village’.
It’s not really much of a village and more of a flat metropolis but it was home for a long time.
That being said, although I loved living East, had a great time and met lets of great people. I had Westfield on my doorstep, I also don’t miss the crime, gangs, annoying wannabe gang kids in Westfield or hanging about on the steps of the stratford centre.
If I could live in London again? I would love to try living West, and in hindsight, wish I had taken the time to move to West London while living there for 7 years. I had lots of friends across North London, South London and West London.
London in a summary?
Living in East London = Great access to the city via the Elizabeth Line, easy routes to Canary Wharf and great access across the city in general. Can appear rough around the edges but has a very hipster artsy scene in some areas, the canals are quite beautiful and nice to walk around.
Living in West London = Leafy green, more wealthy and affulent than East London, transport links are not as good into the city or Canary Wharf unless you stick around the Elizabeth line. Lots more trees than east London and the parks are nicer.
